Simranjit Kaur Gill (Advocate)

Founder & President – Fight For Right | Advocate P&H High Court I  Former Member, Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights

Early Life & Education

Simranjit Kaur Gill was born in Gaunsgarh, Ludhiana. She completed schooling at the Government School in Gaunsgarh before moving to Chandigarh, where she earned her M.A. (Hons.) in Political Science and LL.B. from Panjab University.

Student Leadership

During her university years, she emerged as the first genuine female student leader of Panjab University. She began as Girl Wing In-charge of SOPU and was later elected General Secretary of NSUI (2011–13) — the first woman to head any student party at the university.

In 2014, NSUI appointed her Chief Patron. She undertook a seven-day hunger strike demanding 24-hour library access for girl hostellers, persisting despite assault during the protest. The university ultimately accepted her demands.

In 2016, she founded a student front that won the PUCSC elections within 16 days of formation.

Child Rights Activism

In 2019, she launched the “ਬਚਪਨ ਬਚਾਉ” (Save Childhood) campaign focused on child sexual abuse. The Punjab School Education Department authorised her to conduct lectures and seminars in schools across the state — the first comprehensive campaign of its kind in Punjab.

In January 2023, she was appointed Member of the Punjab State Commission for Protection of Child Rights. She and her team have taken responsibility for 20 child victims, facilitating rescue and rehabilitation.

Independent Activism

In July 2016, she was appointed the youngest woman Secretary of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee but resigned after one month, choosing activism over positions of power. Since then she has neither joined any political party nor accepted political office.

She currently practises as an advocate at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, while leading Fight For Right and independent social and legal interventions for the vulnerable.

Her work also includes farmer protest legal support, environmental advocacy against illegal sand mining, and consistent defence of rural community rights.
